Welcom to How to build a wooden dummy!
I
created this website as a resource for those kung fu students and teachers
who want to build their own wooden dummy. Before building my first wooden
dummy, I did a lot searching around the internet (with no success) for
instructions on how to build a wooden dummy. At first, I considered
buying one but soon found out that they cost anywhere from $800 and
up. This wasn't an option for me and I'm sure it's not an option for
you either, that's why you're here.
I've broken down the process into three parts.
1. Download the plans.
2. Build the dummy.
3. Build a dummy stand.
I've also included a contact form on every page of this site, so if
you have questions or get stuck, please feel free to contact me.

Read an excerpt from the article below.
Having a wooden dummy seems the ultimate in martial arts. I've seen them
in kung fu movies like "Descendant of Wing Chun" and "Rumble in the
Bronx," and I've always thought it would be cool to have one. Besides,
anyone who has their own wooden dummy must be a serious martial artist.
A few things always held
me back from getting one. First, I don't study Wing Chun kung fu, the
art that the wooden dummy is typically associated with. I study 7 Star
Praying Mantis and Northern Shaolin. Second, the cost. Those things
are pricey. I have a wife, two kids and a mortgage. How could I ever
justify spending close to $1,000 on a wooden dummy?
To use the dummy, I knew I would have to learn some Wing Chun (more on this later). And if I was going to have a wooden dummy, I realized I would have to build it myself. So the journey to build my own wooden dummy began.
